Welcome to Step Up and Serve
Dear Neighbor:
On behalf of Illinois’ 102 County Sheriffs and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association, welcome to Step Up & Serve, an information resource to connect you with information about how you can begin your rewarding career in law enforcement.
The Office of Sheriff is one of our society’s most storied and essential entities. When you join our team, you’re making an impact in the lives of your neighbors and community every day, with every shift.
There are many ways you can serve and build a better tomorrow for your community, with opportunities as a deputy, to a 9-1-1 telecommunicator who dispatches essential services, or by becoming a correctional officer.
These open positions aren’t just jobs; they are noble careers where you make an impact, but you don’t have to take my word for it.
You can hear directly from law enforcement professionals on the Career Seekers page. You can also learn more about the basic qualifications and expectations.
You can search, review, and connect with a local sheriff’s office using this website’s Current Opportunities search and interactive map feature.
If you’d prefer that we send your interest to the relevant individuals assisting in recruiting, you can use our Get Connected page to submit your contact information, and we’ll do the rest.
The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association created this resource to break down barriers, expand understanding, and help connect individuals interested in careers in law enforcement with local officials involved in the hiring process.
The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board provided funding for this initiative.
Sincerely,
Jim Kaitschuk
